WEST NAB SHOOTING LODGE, THE PEAK DISTRICT

When planning adventure trips with Chutney in tow, our top priority is finding dog-friendly accommodation.

Many places state that they’re ‘dog-friendly’ but they really mean dogs are tolerated and you’re met with a large list of house rules and extra cleaning fees upon arrival. I look for places where dogs are as welcome as we are!

The ‘West Nab Shooting Lodge’ in Holmfirth, The Peak District, surpassed our expectations of dog-friendly accommodation.

WEST NAB SHOOTING LODGE

A detached, converted stable block situated within a 150 acre working farm, boasting uninterrupted views of beautiful moorland and the city - it made a long lasting impression on us!

The remote location and eco-friendly approach to this lodge allowed us to completely unwind from the world around us. Despite this, we were only a short drive from an abundance of local reservoirs, beautiful walks and local country pubs!

West Nab Shooting Lodge is powered by solar-charged batteries and has no mains electricity - you are encouraged to be conscientious of your energy consumption and it was really refreshing to stop and think about our usage.

Chutney soon found her favourite spot in the lodge! Although there is no central heating, there are two wood burners and plenty of fire wood provided. They also have brilliant instructions for those of us who had no clue how to light a fire!

FACILITIES AT WEST NAB SHOOTING LODGE

The lodge was fully equipped with everything we needed, from cooking up a post-hike meal to relaxing for the rest of the evening in front of the TV. There were plenty of extra touches like candles, books and board games that made this place so special!

There was a washing machine and dishwasher but you have to be mindful when using these as they use a lot of the battery and can lead to power outages when used at the same time as other things!

The wet room was incredibly spacious and even had a His And Hers sink. Due to the eco-friendly nature of the lodge, we did find that hot water was hard to come by but that’s the only negative we have to say about this place!

The king sized bed was comfortable and extra blankets were provided for those colder evenings.

CHECK IN/CHECK OUT

If, like me, you’re socially awkward and prefer not to interact with other humans during your stay then you’ll be pleased to hear that the lodge has a self check-in system!

Check-in was available after 3pm, detailed instructions are provided before arrival and it was seamless. The host messaged me to see when we would arrive and very kindly lit the wood burners and plenty of candles ready for our arrival which really created a cosy atmosphere.

We had to check-out by 11 am which allowed us to have a lie in before having to pack up and leave!

When the first thing you notice is a sign reading ‘all you need is love and a dog’ then you know you’ve struck gold!

Chutney was certainly welcome in this Airbnb and the host went above and beyond to accommodate for a dog’s needs.

Dogs are allowed in all areas of the lodge and are not restricted from the furniture.

There was a fully secure, private garden with a fence high enough to keep Chutney away from their free roaming cows, ducks and geese. There was also a secure, outdoor kennel within the garden.

The host also provided a spare lead, poo bags, a dog towel and blanket, a light-up collar, a torch and my favourite - a holiday tag (pictured above- I have removed their contact details for obvious reasons)!

We had a wonderful time at West Nab Shooting Lodge and would highly recommend it! The location is perfect for keen hikers or cyclists to explore The Peak District or to unwind and escape the world around you. You can find the link to this Airbnb here.
